Hockey Equipment

Full hockey equipment is mandatory for all LBYH programs (with some exceptions for Learn to Play Hockey).

Required equipment includes stick, skates, gloves, shin pads, shoulder pads, elbow pads, padded hockey pants, protective cup, HECC approved helmet and full facemask. Ensure that the helmet is not expired or near expiration as printed on the HECC sticker. Players should also wear a jersey, hockey socks, and hockey shorts with Velcro for holding up the socks. We recommend that all protective equipment be designed specifically for ice hockey. LBYH strongly recommends neck* and mouth guards**.

If you need a new helmet, we encourage you to buy a navy blue helmet to match LBYH travel team colors. Additionally, navy blue pants and navy blue & gold gloves are preferred.

A local hockey shop (such as Zwickers in Bedford, Sports Etc. in Arlington, or Bauer Hockey Experience in Burlington) will have the gear you need and provide assistance in ensuring proper equipment fit and stick curve direction.

USA Hockey has created a video that shows the proper equipment and how to put it on. To watch this video, click here.

*USA Hockey announced in January 2024 that neck laceration protection will be mandatory starting August 1, 2024 for all players or officials under the age of 18.

** Mouth guards are required for all players in the Peewee (12U), Bantam (14U), and Midget (18U) levels
