Steps to become USA Hockey Certified

USA Hockey and the Coaching Education Program require both certification and registration to be eligible to coach. Registration is done online on a yearly basis. Certification is also required. A few basic steps requirements (Must be completed before participating in any team activities) are as follows:

Sign in to USA Hockey Learning Center to access Coaching Requirements including:

• Age Level Modules
• CEP Clinics
• Check on your Certification Level
• Expiration Dates

Foundations of Player Development Prerequisite

Coaches will need to complete the Foundations of Player Development module before purchasing their age-specific module. Once a coach completes the Foundations of Player Development module there will be a 15-minute window before they can purchase and complete their age-specific module.

Age-specific module(s) for the age level of play you are coaching 

Cost is $20* for 8U and $25* for older ages per module and only needs to be completed once per age level. Must be completed PRIOR to participating in any team activities and cannot be added to a roster until completed

Note: The Age Module has a "USAH Age Specific Module Information" link to get you to the available programs. Mites = 8U, Squirts/Peewees = 10U/12U, Bantams/Midgets = 14U/U16/U18/U19

CEP - Find, register and attend the required certification clinic

The Cost is $65*. You can only attend one clinic per season and all coaches start at Level 1. You can take clinics from July 15 - December 31 each season.

**Note: CEP must be completed by December 31st. If not, then you will not be able to coach starting the following January 1st.

CEP Level 4 Coaches

You must take 5 continuing education credits prior to the expiration date of your CEP. These courses range from free to approximately $15-18 each and can be 1-5 credits per class. To learn more and register for continuing education courses, use this link:

*Beyond Level 4 and additional credits is the Level 5 Symposium. LBYH will not reimburse for Level 5. Before seeking out Level 5 certification, please contact President@lbyh.net
