Intro To In-House/Learn To Play Hockey - Session 3

Program Description:

  • The program covers the basic hockey ABC’s for the beginner – skating, agility, balance, edges, and all kinds of fun with pucks
  • The more experienced skater will work on more advanced skating techniques, puck handling passing and shooting
  • Skaters will be placed in groups based on skill level
  • The program is strongly recommended for any player interested in playing in-house hockey, and who can benefit from more on-ice instruction


Minimum age, skill and equipment requirements:

  • 4 to 10 years of age
  • All participants should already have basic skating skills, which is the ability to stand on skates, keep balance and take strides
  • Full hockey equipment is needed from head to toe, which includes a helmet, hockey jersey, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey pants, shin pads, hockey socks, skates, hockey gloves and hockey stick (if you have any questions about equipment or need advice on what to purchase please let us know)


Program dates and times:

  • All sessions held at the Hayden Ice Rink in Lexington
  • Three 9-week sessions, Saturdays from 12:40 to 1:30 pm
    • Session 1 – September 7, 2019 to November 2, 2019
    • Session 2 – November 9, 2019 to January 4, 2020
    • Session 3 – January 11, 2020 to February 22, 2020

Program cost:

  • The cost of the clinic is $159 per session
  • LBYH offers a family discount of 15% for 2 or more siblings

Equipment Requirements:

  • Certified Hockey Helmet w/full mask (NO bike helmets) with mouth guards
  • Hockey stick
  • Hockey gloves
  • Elbow pads
  • Shin guards
  • Hockey pants
  • Shoulder Pads
  • Skates
  • Athletic cup and supporter
  • Jersey
  • Water bottle

Each player must have a current USA Hockey registration. To register for USA Hockey go to and register as a player. You will need to enter your USA Hockey registration number to register for this program.

It is not necessary to have a membership with the Hayden Recreation Center to participate.
